Guinea Bissau

Bharat and Guinea Bissau, for decades, have maintained warm and cordial relations. Guinea Bissau Government is generally supportive of Bharat. There is a considerable goodwill for Bharat both amongst the public and in the government.

 
 

Knowledge Creation and Sharing

An expert in the area of rice cultivation visited Guinea Bissau from Bharat in early 2006 to assist the country under India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Dialogue Forum’s “Poverty Alleviation Funding Facility”. 
An expert Team from Bharat visited Guinea- Bissau to assist in a Solar Power project. In February 2009, India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Trust Fund Board, approved two projects for renewable energy and agricultural capacity building in Guinea Bissau.

Capacity Building

Under Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) 8 training slots have been offered to Guinea Bissau for 2021-22. 

Grants & Concessional Finance

  • Guinea Bissau is a founder member of the Team-9 Initiative. Under this framework, Government of India has extended two lines of credit for food processing and agricultural sector [ US $ 5.00M] as well as for Rural Electrification projects [US $ 20.00 M].
  • Bharat supplied 1000 tons of rice as emergency aid to Guinea Bissau in September 2018.
  • Govt. of India has provided 288000 doses of made in Bharat Covishield  vaccines to Guinea Bissau in April 2021 to assist in their fight against COVID 19 pandemic.
  • Bharat has donated 10,000 units Indelible ink to Guinea Bissau for Parliamentary Elections held on 4th June, 2023.
